As of February 1, 2021, the university will be merged into the “National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University”, establishing the level-I administrative unit of “Center of Environmental Protection & Safety & Health” to plan and supervise the environmental protection and safety/hygiene work in the university with 3 groups, namely Integrated Planning Section, Safety and Health Section, and Biosafety and Environmental Protection Radiation Section), responsible for the administration of environmental protection, occupational safety and health, chemical safety, Biosafety and radiation protection.
Prior to the merger of Yang Ming University, in response to the expansion in 1993 of the Labor Safety and Health Act in the laboratory premises of academic research institutions, the Council of Labor Affairs merged safety and health with the chemical liquid waste management business promoted by the campus environmental protection group. In June 2000, the Environmental Safety Section of the General Affairs Office was established to take charge of the environmental protection, safety and health business of the campus laboratory premises. It was then incorporated into the radiation protection business in 2006, the controlled drugs business in 2007, and the Biosafety business in 2009. In view of the importance attached to Environmental Protection and Safety and Health Day and the expanding scope of its business, the environmental protection section was officially upgraded to the “Center of Environmental Protection & Safety & Health” in August 2008, responsible for planning and supervising the implementation of environmental protection and safety and health work by all units in the school.
The former National Chiao Tung University was incorporated into the Labor Safety and Health Act by the Council of Labor Affairs in 1993, in response to the incorporation of the university’s laboratories, testing rooms, workshops, pilot plants and research laboratories. In accordance with the announcement and the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act, began to promote the campus environmental protection and safety management of experimental sites. The General Affairs Office was responsible for the initial stage of environmental protection work. Due to the increasingly strict law enforcement by the government and the rapid development of the school’s teaching and research fields, the environmental protection problems, and potential hazards in the field of safety and health are on the rise. On March 18, 1998, the school approved the “Measures for the Establishment of Environmental Protection Radiation and Safety and Health Centers in Experimental Sites”. The school has established the “Environmental Protection Radiation and Safety and Health Center of Experimental Site”, which is responsible for supervising and planning the implementation of environmental protection and safety and health management by all units in the school.
